A strategy game is a game (e.g. computer, video or board game) in which the players’ decision-making skills have a high significance in determining the outcome. Many games include this element to a greater or lesser degree, making demarcation difficult. It is therefore more accurate to describe a particular game as having a certain degree of strategic elements, as in being mainly based around strategic principles.

The crucial factor that separates this type of game from all others is that there is relatively little chance involved. All players have equal degree of knowledge of the elements of the game. There is no physical skill required other than that necessary to interact with the game pieces. Examples are English draughts, Chess, Chinese checkers, Stratego, Go, Shogi, Nine Men’s Morris, Mastermind.

Strategy (and tactics) are usually contrasted with luck, the outcome of luck-based games relying on probability. Games exist on a continuum from pure skill to pure chance, with strategic games usually towards the skill end of the spectrum. The word “strategy” is borrowed from a military jargon. It originally refers to planning at a very high level and often strategy games deal rather with planning on a smaller scale for which the word “tactics” is used in a military context.

In abstract strategy games, the game is only loosely tied to a real-world theme, if at all. The mechanics do not attempt to simulate reality, but rather serve the internal logic of the game.

A purist’s definition of an abstract strategy game requires that it cannot have random elements or hidden information. However, many games are commonly classed as abstract strategy games which do not meet these criteria. Games such as Backgammon, Octiles, Can’t Stop, Sequence and Mentalis have all been described as “abstract strategy”[citation needed], despite having a luck element. A smaller category of non-perfect abstract strategy games incorporate hidden information without using any random elements. An example is Stratego.
[edit] Simulation

This type of game is an attempt to simulate the decisions and processes inherent to some real-world situation. Most of the mechanics are chosen to reflect what the real-world consequences would be of each player action and decision. Abstract games cannot be completely divided from simulations and so games can be thought of as existing on a continuum of almost pure abstraction (like Abalone) to almost pure simulation (like Strat-o-Matic Baseball).
[edit] Wargame

Wargames are simulations of military battles, campaigns or entire wars. Players will have to consider situations that are analogous to the situations faced by leaders of historical battles. As such, war games are usually heavy on simulation elements, and while they are all “strategy games”, they can also be “strategic” or “tactical” in the military jargon sense.

Traditionally, wargames have been played either with miniatures, using physical models of detailed terrain and miniature representations of people and equipment to depict the game state; or on a board, which commonly uses cardboard counters on a hex map.

Popular miniature wargames include Warhammer 40,000 or its fantasy counterpart Warhammer Fantasy. Popular strategic board wargames include Risk, Axis and Allies, and Paths of Glory. Advanced Squad Leader is a successful tactical scale wargame.

Strategy video games are categorized based on whether they offer the continuous gameplay of real-time strategy (RTS), or the discrete phases of turn-based strategy . Often the computer is expected to emulate a strategically thinking “side” similar to that of a human player (such as directing armies and constructing buildings), or emulate the “instinctive” actions of individual units that would be too tedious for a player to administer (such as for a peasant to run away when attacked, as opposed to standing still until otherwise ordered by the player); hence there is an emphasis on artificial intelligence.

The Girls is a game based on the hit Disney Channel Original Movie The Cheetah Girls and the sequel The Cheetah Girls 2. In the GBA game, the player controls the band and their destiny to compete in the New Voices Competition in Barcelona, Spain. To do this, you play as each Cheetah Girl to find an agent, Mix and match clothes to make your own outfits, choreograph new dance moves, design and create your own music for demo tracks and much more. A sequel, The Cheetah Girls: Pop Star Sensations, was released for Nintendo DS.

The representation of women in bishōjo games varies, but two generalizations can be made. First, most of the girls are portrayed as bishōjo, meaning beautiful, attractive or cute (according to the definition of beauty as seen by the designers and fans of the video games). Therefore, it is rare to find, for example, an obese or unattractive character in this type of game. Secondly, the majority of the characters are feminine (according to prevalent tendencies in Japan): in the cases where a girl shows a “boyish” appearance, she mostly can be found to be sensitive or feminine under a pseudomasculine façade.

Two particularly common settings exist: Japanese secondary schools and medieval-atmosphered, pseudo-European fantasy lands. In secondary education settings, characters wear idealized Japanese school uniforms; whereas fantasy setting outfits range from witch robes to princess dresses, and Fantastic creatures like fairies and catgirls may be found as well. When the game takes place in some other setting, it tends to explore other fashion possibilities, for example, the game Pia Carrot is located in a restaurant, in which the girls wear elaborate waitress uniforms.

The female character frequently act in an endearingly childlike fashion, which is described by the Japanese slang term moe a characteristic that is often looked-for in bishōjo characters. The reasons for this characteristic are not always merely sexual: sometimes it is used to present a pretty and affectionate character who is beloved and supported by the player. In fact, “little sisters” are a recurring fixture of bishōjo games. A very popular game that emphasizes the characteristic of moe is Sister Princess, based on the premise of the player acquiring no less than 12 little sisters.

The majority of bishōjo games involve anime girls and not pictures of real-life girls. Several reasons for this exist. First, the artistic style of anime allows a noticeable sense of femininity and a great sense of fantasy, something that is not obtained with images of real women. Second, since many characters in bishōjo games are minors (or at least have the behavior and physical proportions of minors), the use of the anime style allows the studios of bishōjo games with adult content to avoid the penalty of Japanese child pornography laws, which do not prohibit the simulated representation of characters under 18 years of age. Even so, it is common to find the packages of these games affirming that, theoretically, all the characters are over 18 years old. More circumstantial reasons also exist: for example, anime girls showed better on computer screens in the beginning of the video game industry, when colors were more limited.

Love Games will feature three former “bad girls” from The Bad Girls Club Amber Meade and Sarah Michaels, both of season three, and Kendra James of season four. The show will revolve around the girls trying to find the right man out of 13 bachelors. Each week will feature challenges for the bachelors and group dates. Bret Ernst will host the eight one-hour episode season.[3] It is scheduled to premiere after the The Bad Girls Club season four two-part reunion special on March 16 and March 23, ET/PT, and then move to its regular timeslot on March 30. ET/PT, until the season finale on May 4, 2010.

Amy Introcaso-Davis, Senior Vice President of Oxygen, stated “Over the successful run of the Bad Girls Club series, the show’s die-hard fan base has demonstrated an insatiable interest in the dating lives of these flirty and outrageously energetic girls. Love Games gives our avid viewers the opportunity to watch their favorite “Bad Girls” find love in a fun and wildly entertaining way.”

The main male character in bishōjo games is often rendered as someone the player can identify with, thus experiencing the story as he would live an episode of his own life. Often the game is viewed in a first person view of the main character. Since bishōjo games focus on female characters and the player’s interaction with them, male characters often receive less time on-screen and the character that represents the player rarely appears; when this happens, his face is usually hidden outside the screen or otherwise. Sometimes the only male appearance in sex scenes is reduced to a penis entering from the side of the screen, with no other visible parts. This is often customizable.

Football is the name of several similar team sports, all with similar origins which involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball with the foot in an attempt to score a goal. The most popular of these sports worldwide is association football, more commonly known as just “football” or “soccer”. However, the word football is applied to whichever form of football is the most popular in each particular part of the world. Hence, the English language word “football” is applied to “gridiron football,” a name associated with American football and Canadian football, Australian rules football, Gaelic football, Rugby league, Rugby union and some related games. These variations are known as “codes”.

The various codes of football share the following elements in common:

* Two teams of usually between 11 and 18 players; some variations that have fewer players (five or more per team) are also popular.
* A clearly defined area in which to play the game.
* Scoring goals or points, by moving the ball to an opposing team’s end of the field and either into a goal area, or over a line.
* Goals or points resulting from players putting the ball between two goalposts.
* The goal or line being defended by the opposing team.
* Players being required to move the ball “depending on the code” by kicking, carrying, or hand-passing the ball.
* Players using only their body to move the ball.

In most codes, there are rules restricting the movement of players offside, and players scoring a goal must put the ball either under or over a crossbar between the goalposts. Other features common to several football codes include: points being mostly scored by players carrying the ball across the goal line; and players receiving a free kick after they take a mark or make a fair catch.

Peoples from around the world have played games which involved kicking or carrying a ball, since ancient times. However, most of the modern codes of football have their origins in England.

Looking to play an MMORPG without having to download it? Well look no further than MMOHut’s No Download Browser Based MMORPG Games section. Browser Based MMORPGs can be quite fun and the best part is that they don’t require a download and can run smoothly on most computers, even older ones! There are so many free browser MMORPGs out there, so gamers have a lot of choice. We currently only have a few browser based MMORPGs reviewed, but we’ll be reviewing and adding more to the site often, so make sure to keep checking back. We only review the best browser games, so every game on this list is either well known or a quality title. There are just too many browser games out there for us to possibly review them all, but we will review as many as we can..

A browser game is a video game that is played on a web browser. It is distinct from other video and computer games in that it typically doesn’t require any client-side software to be installed, apart from the web browser. There are games that rely solely on client-side technologies such as JavaScript or common plugins such as Java or Flash Player, whereas some employ server-side scripting. The latter case consists typically of (massively) multiplayer games or simple two-player board games where the user plays “the (server) computer” as an opponent such as early online versions of Reversi, whereas the client-side games are typically single-player games. A game played in a browser is often called a browser-based game (BBG).

With the development of Document Object Model Level 2 technologies in the late 1990s, it became possible to produce games that would run within a browser without the need of third-party plugins. These games were written using a combination of CSS, JavaScript and the Document Object Model, collectively termed as dynamic HTML (DHTML). Normally used for drop down menus and simple image rollovers, DHTML can be used to produce the animation effects required for sprite-based action games. Ajax programming techniques can also be used to further advance these types of games.

Plugin-based browser games require a form of web browser plugin to function. Some of these may include Java, Shockwave, Flash Player, Silverlight and Unity. Most modern browsers provide a method of installing such plugins if they are not installed.

A growing number of games are being created using server-side scripting, in a language such as PHP, ASP, Ruby, Perl, Python and Java. Games such as this typically only send the user’s browser HTML code for interpretation. Some include Ajax to allow the user to see immediate responses to their online actions and make the games more visually appealing.
